Before and after bathroom remodel (22)

Looking for inspiration for your next bathroom remodel? Take a look at one of our recent projects right here in San Diego. Our PBH Builders team enjoyed getting to know what elements would make up our client’s dream bathroom and then bringing their vision to life.

Here’s how we did it!

Vanity Upgrade

One of the fastest ways to modernize a bathroom is to replace the vanity countertop, cabinet, and hardware. In this bathroom, we removed the somewhat blocky white countertops and replaced them with a sleeker, elegant natural quartz. We also swapped out the silver faucet for a taller, slimmer faucet set. It may seem like a small difference, but the little bit of extra space in the sink bowl creates more of a spa-like effect. And, the darker color of the faucet helps to add contrast to the light gray color scheme of the bathroom.

Speaking of the sink, our clients opted for a square bowl instead of a round one. This is a great way to add dimension to your bathroom! And, with a square sink bowl, we chose to balance things out with a vertical oval mirror instead of the overpowering rectangle one that this bathroom had before.

Out with the bath, in with the walk-in shower

One of the most common requests we get for bathroom remodel projects is to remove the seldom-used bathtub. This can be an effective way to open up the space while also creating a more comfortable shower experience. And, we love that the floor tiling can be such a fantastic medium for adding a bit of character and artistry to the bathroom.

When it came to choosing the right shower head, we wanted to give our clients as many options as possible. Instead of installing only a luxurious rainfall showerhead, we opted to include a handheld attachment, too.

One final change we made with the shower was to say good-bye once and for all to the shower curtain. A glass door is easier to keep clean and it doesn’t obstruct the light, giving this bathroom a more modern spa-like atmosphere.

Budget-friendly secrets to this bathroom remodel

Often, our clients ask us about ways that we can make their bathroom remodel more budget-friendly. One way that we saved our clients money on this project was to keep the window.

A well-made decently-sized window like this is timeless and didn’t need to be replaced! Keeping it as part of the remodel was a budget-friendly decision that aligned perfectly with our design goals.

Smarter storage

We understand that our clients don’t live in an IKEA showroom. Their homes aren’t going to look spotless in everyday life! So, in order to keep things looking tidy even with regular use, we always incorporate clever storage options for easy organization.

Before the remodel, this bathroom featured a deep two-door cabinet over the toilet. Although it offered a decent amount of storage, it attracted clutter. We replaced it with a hanging cabinet featuring two doors and an open shelf. The open shelf can be used to place essentials like an extra roll of toilet paper and any other items that the family uses most, including toothbrushes or make-up removing swabs. In the cabinet above, less frequently used items like fresh hand towels, hair products, and more can be stored out of sight until needed.

Within the shower, we installed a nook in the wall to replace the outdated soap holder. This dedicated space to hold shampoo, conditioner, and other items makes the entire bathroom look cleaner and more organized than placing bottles on the edges of a bathtub. And it’s much easier to clean than the traditional soap holder design.
